About Alisa

I paint stylized feminine figures that are often described as whimsical. Often my figures are depicted in conjunction with animals or sea-creatures, exploring the human-animal connection and raising questions about people and their interaction with the natural world. I enjoy conjuring feelings of nostalgia and yearning, and like to dabble in quirkiness, sarcasm and irony. My inspiration often comes from my love of folk art, mythology, icons, and the feminine/goddess mystique. Recently I spent a sabbatical year of adventure aboard a sailboat exploring the Caribbean and Central America. This time spent at sea continues to  influence my work, with aquatic life, water and the colors of the sea end up in most of my work.

Although I have spent nearly twenty years painting murals, specialized wall finishes, and creating original hand-painted furniture pieces, I now focus on acrylic and mixed media paintings that are found in collections throughout the US and abroad. Although primarily self taught, I hail from a long line of artists, and have studied art in a variety arenas, including classes and workshops with master artists. I am a voracious reader, and enjoy collecting experiences, folk art, and textiles from around the world.

I paint stylized feminine fi゙gures that are often described as whimsical. Frequently depicting fi゙gures in conjunction

with animals or sea-creatures, my paintings explore the human-animal connection and raise questions about people and

As a trained counselor and therapist (M.S., CSUS), I am fascinated by the exploration of emotions through art. I

have built parallel careers, working both as a counselor/educator and as an artist/muralist. I now focus mainly on acrylic

and mixed media paintings that are found in collections throughout the US and abroad. Although mostly self taught, I hail

from a family of artists, and have studied art in a variety arenas, including workshops with Mark Kerckhoff, and Irma Koch.

I love to travel, and recently returned from a sabbatical year of adventure aboard a sailboat exploring the Caribbean and

Central America with my husband and two boys. I am a voracious reader, and enjoy collecting experiences, folk art, and

textiles from around the world. Website- http://www.alisaproctor.com/
